OFFICIAL RULES & FORMAT

THE COLD BUCKETS DIFFERENCE

Cold Buckets is a competitive 1v1 basketball league built to test every part of a player’s game.

Each matchup includes 3 different sessions with 3 different ways to compete.

Players must win 2 out of the 3 sessions to win the matchup.

GAME FORMAT

MATCH STRUCTURE

• Every matchup consists of 3 sessions

• Each session has different rules

• Players compete one-on-one

• First player to win 2 sessions wins the matchup

SESSION RULES

SESSION 1 — 3 DRIBBLES

“Get To Your Spot”

• Offensive player starts at the top of the key

• Maximum of 3 dribbles

• Player must shoot before the 3rd dribble ends

• Makes are worth:

  • 1 point inside the arc

  • 2 points behind the arc

• First player to 5 points wins Session 1

SESSION 2 — UNLIMITED DRIBBLES

“Pure Iso”

• Offensive player starts at the top of the key

• Unlimited dribbles allowed

• Standard live 1v1 play

• Makes are worth:

  • 1 point inside the arc

  • 2 points behind the arc

• First player to 5 points wins Session 2

SESSION 3 — TRANSITION SCORING

“Open Court Pressure”

• Possession starts from half court

• Live transition attack toward the basket

• Player must clear the ball after defensive stops

• Makes are worth:

  • 1 point inside the arc

  • 2 points behind the arc

• First player to 5 points wins Session 3

GENERAL GAME RULES

POSSESSION

• Game begins with rock-paper-scissors or coin toss

• Ball must be checked at the top of the key

• Defensive rebounds must be cleared beyond the arc before scoring

FOULS

• Players call their own fouls unless referees are present

• No excessive contact

• No dangerous or unsportsmanlike behavior

• Repeated rough play may lead to warnings or removal

OUT OF BOUNDS

• Ball is out when it touches:

  • Sideline

  • Baseline

  • Wall or obstacle

• Possession changes after out-of-bounds calls

SCORING

• Shots inside the arc = 1 point

• Shots behind the arc = 2 points

• First player to 5 points wins the session

• Win 2 of 3 sessions to win the matchup

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

All players are expected to:

• Show respect to opponents

• Respect referees and staff

• Arrive on time

• Play hard and compete fairly

• Represent themselves professionally

Trash talk is allowed. Disrespect is not.

SPORTSMANSHIP POLICY

Cold Buckets is competitive, but safety and respect come first.

The following may result in:

• Warning

• Session loss

• Match disqualification

• Removal from future events

Examples include:

• Fighting

• Threats

• Intentional dirty play

• Arguing with officials

• Damage to venue property

EVENT NOTES

• Bracket format may vary by event

• Time limits may be added if needed

• Rules may be adjusted slightly depending on venue or division

• Staff decisions are final
